The West Michigan Glass Society has grown out of our current location! We have become a regional glass art center and our studios no longer meet our needs for programming and community events. As a result, we are expanding into a new, larger spac e in the Park Trades Center that will house administrative offices, a gallery, a public events area, and five studios/classrooms with large and expandable space to accommodate large groups and stadium-like seating for viewing demonstrations. We will be in one identifiable location.
Renovations are required to meet our specific needs of operating and maintaining a glass blowing hot shop, flame room, cold shop, fusing, mosaics, casting and stained glass studio. Our goal is to move in by May 2010. We need your help to raise the $120,000 needed to renovate our new home.
Our mission is to teach, create and promote glass art. Our ‘Fire Works!’ youth program does just that. This year over 1800 area youth visited our studios and participated in hands-on glass art projects.Programming for adults brings bus tours to our studios to view demonstrations and explore glass art. We are unique in this area of Michigan as a not-for-profit glass arts educational program.
To support our vision as a nationally recognized, state-of-the art, public-access glass art center located in downtown Kalamazoo, please sponsor a hot glass brick. Each brick will be engraved by local glass artist, Larry Galdes, and will be incorporated into a glass art sculpture prominently displayed in the public events area.
Call 269-552-9802 to donate. Your gift is greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged at our grand opening scheduled for the fall of 2010.
