Stained Glass

Centuries-old technique of assembling separate pieces of colored glass to form a glass panel or window. Common techniques use lead channel (came) to assemble the pieces, or soldering pieces together that have been wrapped with a copper foil tape. Classes include all glass, supplies and tools.

Class Registration Information

  • All classes, workshops and open studio require pre-registration. To register: use the PayPal links below or call our office at 269-552-9802
  • A deposit of 1/2 of the class tuition is required to reserve space.
  • Payment in full is due no later than the first-class session.
  • Cancellations received 48 hours prior to start date, will result in a full refund minus a non-refundable registration fee of $30.00.
  • Cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to start date and no-shows will result in forfeit of all class tuition.
  • The West Michigan Glass Art Center reserves the right to cancel. Students will be notified and a full refund of monies paid will be returned.
  • All cancellations made by a student will be refunded in the form of a WMGAC gift certificate.  If WMGAC cancels the class, we will give you a full cash refund in the form of a check.

Classes Offered

Beginning Stained Glass Panel, The Copper Foil Method

Students will learn to work with a pattern, safely use cutting tools, select and fit glass to the pattern, foil the glass and solder the pieces together. Learn the steps to finish and patina a beautiful 6” x 8” panel so it is ready to hang! Class may require work outside of class time to complete the project in 4 weeks.

Beginning/Continuing Stained Glass

Students will learn to work with a pattern, safely use cutting tools, select and fit glass to the 8” x 8” pattern of your choice. You will learn to foil the glass and take your pieces home to finish the foiling. During the second class you will learn to solder the pieces together and add rings to it is ready to hang. Note: Students will need to visit WMGAC to select a pattern and your glass prior to the first class. This class requires work outside of class time.

Combining Sandblasting and Stained Glass (NEW!)


$60 (Members)

Get ready to explore 2 of our favorite studios while creating 2 unique pieces of art. Spend the first hour blasting designs onto a glass item of your choice and a 2-sided, 4 x 4 tile. The tile will then become the centerpiece for your stained glass project. Learn the basics of copper foil techniques as you frame your tile incorporating more glass and baubles. You’ll be able to take both of your finished projects home with you that day!

Fused and Stained Glass Fusion


$100 (Members)

Learn fusing and stained glass skills while you create a 10” x 10” piece in this 3 week class. Learn to cut, stack and layer glass to create kiln fused components. Then incorporate your components with stained glass. Learn the copper foil construction method as you create a stunning wind chime, sun catcher or garden art. For wind chimes, students may incorporate their own beads to further personalize their project.

Mosaic Table Top and Frame


$110 (Members)
$130 (Non-Members)

A mosaic is created by bringing together many individual pieces of glass and arranging them to create patterns and designs. You will make a 15” round table top and a picture frame to hold a keepsake photo. Learn to use glass cutting tools, how to follow a pattern and beginning mosaic skills. Open studio work, outside of class time, may be needed for you to be ready for grouting during the final class. You will grout your pieces the last day and take them home with you to dry. We’ll send you home with the information and purchasing resources, to add a protective layer of resin for the table top if desired.
