Glass fusing, sometimes called warm glass, is the technique of heating pieces of compatible glass in a kiln until they are completely fused. Classes include all glass, materials and tools.

Fusing Fundamentals: Three Week Class

Prerequisite: Age 13 & up, no experience necessary

You will be introduced to the basic principles behind forming glass in the kiln, glass cutting tools, glass saw and grinder. Discover how to incorporate different kinds of glass such as dichroic, stringers, frit and confetti into your projects. You’ll see how glass paints can give your pieces detail and interest. The projects include sparkly dichroic glass jewelry, a 9” architectural or landscape piece, a slumped dish and a creative wind chime

Have you wanted to mix and match your fusing projects?
Join us for this “a la carte” class. $20 covers your kiln firing and the instructor’s expert help. You select the projects you’d like to make and how many you want to complete in the 2.5 hours. Each project is priced a la carte starting at $5 for a pendant and up to $40 for a 9” dish. We will total up your projects at the end and add them to the base firing fee.

Learn how to make this summer camp favorite! We will cut glass and layer it on a clear base. Then add color glass to create a brightly patterned gecko. Two kiln firings are included to fuse and slump this 3D sculpture.

A glass class for anyone wishing to learn the basics of fused glass. Learn how to cut glass, use frit, stringer and confetti to design a large glass bowl. You will have a choice of different size and shape molds for slumping your piece. Pieces will be kiln fired, then fired a second time to slump them. They will be ready for pick up 10 days following the class.

Fused Photo Frame for Plant Stakes or Magnets

Create two fused glass photo plant stakes or magnets.
Personalized stakes displayed in a pretty plant make a perfect thoughtful gift for an upcoming shower, house warming or special occasion. You’ll love the splash of color and whimsy your photo frame will add to a home. Frames measure approx. 3 1/2”. Shown left is a cute rubber ducky plant stake with white bubbles on a blue background . Next to the ducky stake is a cheerful sparkly green frog and dragonfly plant stake. Photos slide into the holder you create. This design is for indoor plants. If you would rather choose the magnet option listed above, simply create the same design concept as the plant stake, just omit the glass stake.

Create two personalized glass stakes for your houseplants and garden. You’ll learn to cut glass and how to use glass paints to personalize your stakes with words or designs. You’ll receive a small packet of sparkly dichroic glass to give your fused glass plant stakes a little bling! Additional dichroic glass will be available for purchase.
Shown left is a cheerful "Gardening Feeds the Soul" plant stake, a happy "Mom's Garden" white and sparkly green fused glass stake and a whimsical red and white "Mom's Garden" plant stake. Fun ideas to get your ideas flowing!

Youth Wind Spinner/Wind Chime-Two Week Class

Make a sparkly wind spinner using a variety of glass, frit and stringer. The first week you’ll design and create your spinner. We will fire it and when you return, the next Saturday, it will be ready for us to finish the assembly so it will be ready to hang.

Fused Dichroic Jewelry

Prerequisite: Age 13 & up, no experience necessary.
This class is for beginning to advanced students.
$85 members/$100 non-members Maximum: 10 students
Students will learn a variety of skills: cutting, measuring, use of glass saw, grinder, use of inclusions, glass paints and different kinds of COE 90 glass (dichroic, iridized, transparent, opaque, stringer, frit and confetti). Finish your projects with jewelry findings and wire wrapping. Class includes a starter packet of dichroic glass, wire and jewelry findings. Additional dichroic glass will be available for purchase.
You will learn so many new skills in this glass fusing class for adults and teenagers here in Southwest Michigan. We're the hotspot for fun things to do in Kalamazoo!
