West Michigan Glass Art Center is proud to host Kalamazoo's highly anticipated 7th annual ‘Battle of the Glassblowers’ on Friday, April 5th, 5-10 p.m. and Saturday, April 6, noon to 6 p.m, 2013. This high stakes, glass sporting event promises jaw dropping moments of excitement as glassblowers and flameworkers transform hot molten glass into exquisitely delicate objects. This once-a-year battle lures unparalleled talented glass artists from across the region. Cheer on your favorite glassblower or flameworker in this FREE family friendly event. Battle of the Glassblowers Hot Shop Battle Competitions
Friday, April 5
Team Competitions, 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
There will be 6 team slots of 90 minutes each. 3 person team consisting of Gaffer (Team Leader) and 2 assistants of Gaffer’s choice. No duplication of
team members in Team Competition
90 minutes to create a 3 Piece Beverage Set: Choices of sets: A Pitcher and 2 mugs, A Carafe and 2 goblets or A Decanter and 2 tumblers
Saturday, April 6
Featuring 3 Individual Competitions:
Fastest Goblet: 12 Noon to 1:00 pm. 14 slots available. Event is timed for speed
Fanciest Goblet: 1:15 pm to 4:10 pm. 8 slots available. 40 minute time limit
People’s Choice Mystery Object: 4:15 pm to 6:15 pm. 8 slots available. 25 minute time limit
The public will submit their choices into a hat and the competitor will draw 2 tags and pick one tag to make the best interpretation of the object.
Battle Feast and awards will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.
*6 judges will rate each team according to the rules and point system of the competition
